So a couple of days ago, I had a student straggle in late for class. She was shaking and holding a bloody kleenex on her lip.
"What happened, are you okay?" I ask.
"I got shoved and this wire went through my lip," she said. Actually, I think that's what she said because at this point, she wasn't making a whole lot of sense. She didn't have any braces on, so I couldn't figure out the wire thing. I took the next logical course of action and sent her down to the sick room.
After school, I got the rest of the incomplete story, such as it was. She told the attendance secretary that she was holding this piece of wire, and then all of a sudden it just went through her lip. Hmmm. Just like that. I'm guessing she was trying to pierce her lip, and wasn't ready for it to hurt like crazy and start bleeding all over the place. Blech!
